SM Cherry Antipolo
SM Cherry Antipolo, a large shopping mall in the Philippines, began its life as a grocery store in a chain of stores called “Cherry Foodarama”. The client purchased the space with the plan to convert it to a mall, and was looking for brighter and more modern presence. The original vintage feel to the signage was preserved, and a vibrant and playful patterned façade enlivens the street-facing side of the building. The original curtain glazing at the upper level is offset by a new canopy at the ground level, which brightens the primary entry and allows more space and light to accent the ground level.
A new Skygarden at the upper level draws visitors out to a space to meander, eat a snack, or to participate in outdoor activities and performances. Foliage at the perimeter of the garden soften the edges and create an urban oasis, and a generous canopy at the building edges provide respite from the rain that frequents the region.
