Study sketches preceded experimentation on the loom. Observational sketching of bodies in motion provided ideas and pattern thoughts for weaving.
The first full-sized sample was woven to test the pattern and materials of the final weavings. The weave is constructed of merino wool and raw silk, juxtaposing a thicker, heartier yarn with a thin, delicate one.
Weavings
These weavings represent a selection of work, ranging from a project executed over the course of a semester, to more contemporary work. Light and shadow have, and continue to be, a constant source of inspiration and exploration. The shawls shown on these pages reflect the study, through use of sketching, painting, and sampling, of how light and shadow interact with the body. Using natural materials such as wool, silk and cotton, the textile pieces are passion projects that nurture the artistic drives of their maker.
